All I ever learned from love was everything.
I have learned that we are more than the part of our sums, that we may be illegible to ourselves but an open book to those who care to look, and that we can get the answer wrong but show our work and still pass the class.
I have learned that we are rarely who we tell ourselves we have been, that no matter how hard we try we can never outrun the future, and that every single word and tear and laugh tells the story of the world.
I have learned that falling apart on a crowded street corner is a hallmark of the brave, that even despair contains the seeds of our redemption, and that the stories of heroes usually leave out the friend who never walked away.
I have learned that we can die in the truth and be reborn unscathed, that everything except fairy stories and nursery rhymes are a lie, and that in between the falsehoods spoken by the black snake lie the new psalms of the people.
I have learned that the only thing we have to fear is ourselves, that we need but find the holy words to ask for redemption and it shall be ours, and that nothing truly dies because the rest of us still live.
